The National Qualifications Framework

The National Qualifications Framework [NQF], administered by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority [NZQA], is New Zealand's definitive structure for nationally recognised unit standards and qualifications.

All ETITO developed unit standards and qualifications are registered on the NQF.

The NQF is comprised of unit standards that have been developed with industry through a comprehensive consultation process designed to ensure that the requirements of industry are reflected. The consultative approach continues throughout the lifecycle of the unit standards to ensure that the evolving needs of firms continue to be met. Unit standards are packaged into national qualifications.

To ensure quality and consistency, the NQF requires that:

• all national unit standards are registered on the Framework;
• national unit standards are used only by accredited organisations [e.g. universities, polytechnics, private training establishments]; and
• a national quality assurance system is in place that ensures the consistency of assessment process and outcomes.
